Waking Up Poem by Wayne Wickham

Waking Up

I woke up this morning, put my foot in a sock,
Threw my hat on my head and looked at the clock.
As I looked, I frowned, and I understood my fate,
That if I lingered much longer, I'd surely be late.
So I ran down the hall and fell down the stairs,
I picked myself up and looked around unawares.
I finally decided in which direction to go,
So I started off again, but I was going too slow.
I ran and I ran and I ran a little more,
Then I woke myself up with a sneeze and a snore.
I looked around the room with a nod and a blink,
And I noticed that everything inside it was pink.
A pink bed, a pink desk, pink shoes and a pink hat,
And I said to myself, 'I can't live with that! '
So I went to the window and looked out through the screen;
I turned back in a flash, and everything was green.
I cried, 'Oh gross! ' as I sat on my bed,
'Please, oh please, don't turn everything red! '
So I closed my eyes, and this time I just sat.
Then I felt something furry; I looked; it was my cat.
He looked normal and fuzzy, and we were all alone,
For I was still in bed, lying out prone.
I looked in the cat's eyes, and I really looked deep,
Then I rolled over in bed and fell fast asleep.
I woke up this morning and put my foot in a shoe,
Threw my hat on my head and started anew.

Great write! I like the style, clever idea, format (rhyme, count, flow) and the wit and humor in this short narrative poem. 10+++++
