Walking With You Poem by Annie Jane

Walking With You

I am walking with you, barefoot,
My steps impressed with the weight
Of your love.

Sometimes I follow.
I allow my toes to echo your tracks and I am the skipping shadow of your steady footfall.

Sometimes we are side by side.
Stride by stride, joined at the hip, and there is something lyrical about the symmetry of steps in unison.

Sometimes I lead you.
My footprints like breadcrumbs on a lesser-known path, which, if followed, will bring you to your home.

I, your sure-footed companion, would have you know that
Whether behind, beside or beyond...
I will be with you.
