War Poem by Daniel Parker

War

My memories, some sad, some gay,
The glee of times that passed,
It seems that life has had it's say,
And made me come in last,
I've fought a battle long and hard,
A fight to stay alive,
My life has left me bruised and scarred,
A struggle to survive,

I've taken shots, my wounds are deep,
The bullet stopped me cold,
The cuts are whole, they swell and seep,
No stories to be told,
A battlefield of hopes and dreams,
They fight to earn the right,
My memories tear at the seams,
Each morning and each night,

I have no tears to cry for you,
I feel this pain no more,
There were those times I had no clue,
Hurt brought me to the floor,
The happy times lay on my mind,
They're heavy on my heart,
The times when you would smile, so kind,
Then misery would start,

I'd take a pill, forget your name,
To put my mind at ease,
I know now that you weren't to blame,
I beg, forgive me please,
If only I'd not made you go,
My heart would not be sore,
The battle's won, but now I know,
I've simply lost the war,

Forgiveness takes a lot of heart, especially when one's died,
Embrace the person at your feet, it's worth the tears you've cried,
