War Poem by Julian Takali

War

Along the banks of warfare
With loud and lethal in tandem
In damp boots and wetter socks
Tread in arms the reefs of war
Of the bunkers in pieces
Of the aeroplanes carving the skies
Of the bullets slicing sweet soft skin
A brother by me
In the stare of death cuffed as vice cuts flesh
The longest breaths of his life
In arms treading the reefs of war
Coughing crimson blood
Painting by the seaside
On the camouflaged gear and sleek metal
In soggy pants and damper hands
The loveliest breath a man could take
Have you ever seen life as wind sees dust?
