War - Ww1 - Warriors Poem by Paul Warren

War - Ww1 - Warriors

Do you wonder what they thought
Trudging through the mud as they fought
To reach a front of trenches battered
As they passed the detritus of war that mattered

Do you wonder at their mettle
Standing to as the machine guns rattled
Knowing when they left the trench of safety made
They would face the reaper's blade

All gave some and some gave their all
Never again seeing home in their recall
And I wonder what they thought
Those years ago when for us they fought.
