We Are So Very Different Poem by Francis Duggan

We Are So Very Different

We are so very different we think so differently
And when we look at this World of ours a different World we see
And though our different thinking makes us so interesting some have been known to say
Our mates with us share common ground and 'tis always been that way.

We come from different backgrounds though some interests in common we share
You have a God to pray to and to him you kneel in prayer
And I'm a Godless fellow of that why should I lie
And I will remain a pagan until the day I die.

Christ is supposed to have said those who deny me before man in my father's kingdom shall not dwell
If this be so and there's an afterlife my ticket is for hell
And you believe that you are bound for heaven I hope thought proves you right
Though through your darkened tunnel you walk in the dim light.

I was born and raised as a Christian but as such I did not stay
And this talk of a hereafter to me only hearsay
And you believe in your God Almighty one that you cannot see
Does that make you more gullible or a better man than me?

We are so very different you are a God fearing man and a patriot at heart
And even in our thinkings we do seem poles apart
'Tis people's different thinkings makes them interesting or so 'twould seem that way
And our mates with us share common interests each to their own they say.
