We Are Who We Are Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

We Are Who We Are

A tiny seed within us lies,
A whisper from our parents' eyes.
It shapes our moods, our quick delight,
Our fear in shadows, or in light.
A body's plan, a chemical hum,
From which our first emotions come.

Then fields we walk, a gentle breeze,
Or storms that bend us to our knees.
A parent's hand, a word of praise,
A hurt that lingers through our days.
The things we see, the tales we're told,
Make spirits brave or hearts feel cold.

The village square, the ancient lore,
The rules they teach, forevermore.
What's good and bad, a spoken creed,
From every land, a different seed.
One calls it virtue, one calls it sin,
The world we're in, shapes what's within.

And for the whole, a clever art,
Each different beat, a vital part.
Some leap ahead, some watch with care,
Some hold so tight, some freely share.
For every task, a mind unique,
Makes us survive, makes us all speak.

So born we are, with traits untold,
Then shaped by hands, both young and old.
By worlds we touch, by lessons learned,
The person that we have become.
