We Have Ourselves To Blame Poem by Francis Duggan

We Have Ourselves To Blame

Hurricanes and showers of hail in Spring and Summer the weather is strange
The greatest threat to human existence is climate change
So much damage done when the gales have blown tame
For the anger of Nature we have ourselves to blame.

For damage to our Natural Environment the price is huge to pay
The mature trees that were cut down did not grow in a day
The bulldozing of groves and woodlands in progress name
Is not to our glory only to our shame.

By our Mother Earth no doubt we have done wrong
To the group known as Environmental Vandals most of us belong
We pollute sea and land, air and every waterway
We are our own worst enemies that does seem sad to say.

For financial gain the destruction of our Natural Environment many of us seem to enjoy
But 'tis not our Earth Mother that we will destroy
If 'tis our own extinction we are trying to create
In human progress what is to celebrate?
