We're Watching You Slowly Drift Away Poem by James S Newcomb Lang

We're Watching You Slowly Drift Away

Rating: 5.0

We're watching you slowly drift away
Lost in your inner mind
Searching for those memories
Which are harder and harder to find

Trying to recall those inner thoughts
And remember all that you'd done
But now your brain seems empty
And your mind has fallen numb

Senility, has taken thee
And left you in disarray
So alone within your psyche
You must face each frustrating day

Now looking so painfully undignified
When once you shone so bright
Knowledgeable and charming
Articulate and erudite

You must be waiting impatiently
For your inevitable demise
And an end to the tumult in your mind
And the final closing of your eyes

A peaceful end is all we can ask
As we leave those who loved us most
And that they will fondly remember
With an occasional raised glass toast

So now it's goodbye, so long, farewell
Now that the end has finally come to your plight
From your family and friends who loved you
We bid you a final good night
