We The People Poem by Don Subba

We The People

"We the people, " they say,
"We have the final say."
But somewhere between the words and the walls,
Our voices fade away.

We're nothing but pawns in somebody's game,
Moved around and pushed aside,
Faceless faces in a nameless crowd,
With nowhere left to hide.

They draw the lines,
They move the pieces,
They call the shots,
And call it freedom.

We the people,
We the people,
We the people—
Can you hear our cry?

Pawns in the game,
Pawns in the game,
Pawns in the game—
How long must we survive?

Faceless, nameless,
Still we remain,
Faceless, nameless—
We won't wear that name.

We the people, we are
The ones who pay the cost,
Jobs disappear, the doors are closed,
And another dream is lost.

They call it numbers, call it change,
Call it progress in the name,
But behind every number stands a life
And we're not pawns in your game.

We the people,
We the people,
We the people—
Can you hear our cry?

Pawns in the game,
Pawns in the game,
Pawns in the game—
How long must we survive?

Faceless, nameless,
Still we remain,
Faceless, nameless—
We won't wear that name.

We've been swept beneath the rug,
Buried underneath the blame.
But you can't erase a million voices,
You can't silence every name.

Say our names,
Say our names,
We are still here.
Say our names,
Say our names,
We refuse to disappear.

We are the hands that build your cities,
We are the backs that bear the weight.
You may move the pieces on the board,
But we decide our fate.

We the people,
We the people,
We the people—
Now hear our cry.

No more pawns,
No more pawns,
No more pawns—
We will not stand aside.

Faceless, nameless?
No, we have a name.
Faceless, nameless?
We won't take that name.

We the people,
We the people,
We the people—
And we remain.

Say our names…
Say our names…
We are still here.

We the people…
We the people…
We will not disappear.
