We Who Ate Dried Bread Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

We Who Ate Dried Bread

We
We who ate dried bread
Sipped in a little dirty water
We
Knew misery, looked at it
Not in a mirror but in
The face
We looked at it
Our heads humble bowed
Our hearts were cold
Our brains resigned
We
We who were eating dried bread of misery.
