Welcoming The Spring Poem by Chandrani Dutta Das

Welcoming The Spring

Its Winter all around and me..
Cold winds come migrating,
To steal away all the warmth
That was still there in traces in me..

I feel myself to be a tree
Shedding its leaves of glee
Such that nothing but pain
Is what is left to me.

But I cannot cease my life
Just like the tree
sans all leaves
Still continues to be.

And my dreams miles away
As if they will never come to be,
Things will not be the same again
For that tree or me..

And suddenly I hear the cuckoo sing
With tweets that fill the air.
Is that some magic or some melody,
Which I thought never mine ears will bear.

I raise mine eyes to look around,
Everything appeared so fresh and new,
Blooms adorning the earth,
With its fragrance and hue.

Is the Winter gone? I ask myself.
And hear the cuckoo sing,
And fill the air with its vernal chirp,
'Welcoming the Spring '
