Whales Are Inuit Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Whales Are Inuit

Whales are Inuit

Some action and accord make the word ‘Suicide’
Is talked of; mainly heard; not best food on plate.

Blind are invaders, and looter
Brutal Pizarro, example…

Native says Inuvialuit; “looking as caribou”
Woman saw one of them; waded in petrified
She turned to a stone, as happened in Lima.
Turned islands…

Can it be suicide; an attempt too common?
Among those, nearby…
Is this of the whales? Hairy-Kiri, sixty one…
Is this what bear did? Small cage in China?
Is it same with dolphin, the TV’s Flipper?
Is it same with grieved dog, or insects?
(Sacrificing Themselves, Protecting Others)
Are they all suicide?

Oh how I understand…
Suicide…Aboriginal…
Mainly is among youths
Girls hold the top spot…

City men, modernized, civilized
Are new Pizarro(s)

Inuit, First Nations
Do as do their friends
Whales’ Hairy-Kiri

Whale lost their ocean
Inuit language and culture
Whales became Moby Dick
Inuit became poor…
Inuit and the whale are enforced: “Be slave.”

Both agree upon one: “committing suicide.”
Wait you two…I am on my way, cannot take…
