What Did I Buy My Daddy For Christmas? Poem by Martin Ward

What Did I Buy My Daddy For Christmas?

What did I buy my Daddy for Christmas?

What did I buy my Daddy for Christmas?
Entry into the Jingle Jog 5K!
He smiled politely, but didn't really say much,
as we cheered him off and waved him on his way.

Don't slip on the duck-doodahs, Daddy:
Mummy would need to wash it off your clothes.
That would put her in a right-royal paddy,
and most certainly get right up her nose.

My Mummy seemed to be a little worried,
that Daddy might be feeling poorly later.
But jogging is good - like walking that is hurried,
so no need for the park defibrillator.

I jumped with joy when I thought he was the winner,
as a Santa-costumed runner crossed the line.
But then I saw it was someone somewhat thinner,
and able to run 5K in half his time.

My Daddy really does look just like Santa:
rotund and with a very ruddy face.
I'll take him to the cafe for a Fanta:
(other varieties of soft drinks are also available)
I think he's earned it, having ran the race.

Happy Christmas to Derby Telegraph readers,
and here's hoping you start running next year.
Then you can join my Daddy amongst the leaders,
or more likely (like him)be bolstering the rear!
