What do you think when you hear
The magnitude of thunder ringing clear?
When you see the sky burst asunder
By lightning's star-like wonder?
What do you think when you hear
The roar of heaving waves severe?
When you watch the ocean rise
And throw its body against the cliffs like a falling sky?
I think of the thunder splendid in wonder
As the footsteps of God—so great in power.
And the lightning flash is a small foretaste of his holy wrath
That will one day sweep away all the wicked chaff.
I think of the waves fearfully resounding
As the sound of Heaven's gates wide revealing.
And the crash upon the cliffs awfully grand,
Is like His omnipotent love that will never, no never let go of my hand.
