What the heck did you expect me to do?
I always believed your words to be exact and true,
You told me to always love my neighbors
And never to be judgmental or be like enemies or haters.
You told me to model my life after that of Jesus
Because, he is our Lord and Savior and one of us,
And to be kind and considerate, and to stand up for the cowed
Also to plant a loving and caring seed and be proud.
You told me to love people, consider others as more important than myself
And never to judge anyone by their clothes or looks or lack of wealth,
Whether they are red or yellow, black or white
They are all very precious in Jesus's sight.
We sang it together, pressing the volume pedal
As if we were attempting to win a gold medal,
And leaning our hearts into the chorus as we sang
Unto God in Heaven we knew our voices rang.
You told me to love my enemies, to even do good to those who wish bad
You told me to always be be happy, helpful and caring and glad,
And you told me to never to hate anyone and to encourage people
As if we were standing underneath the church's steeple.
You told me it's better to give than it is to receive
You told me never to lie, con, cheat or to deceive,
Then you told me that money doesn't bring happiness and joy
It can even lead to evil as the devil's greatest ploy.
Taking care of the needs of others brings great joy and life to the soul
Which makes me feel so very happy and whole,
You told me that Jesus looks at what I do for the least-of-these
As the true depth of my faith and belief in worship we fell to our knees.
You told me to focus on my own sin instead of trying to police it in others
As we are as you told me, each others sisters and brothers,
You told me to be accepting and to always be forgiving
While we are on Gods earth, because of him we are living.
I paid attention to every word that you had ever said
I took every lesson as if it was my daily bread,
And I also did whatever you had showed or told me
Because, I am a Christian as the Lord does hear and see.
Now you call me a libtard and a queer-lover
You now call me 'woke' and a backslider one racist name after another,
You now even call me a heretic a child of the devil
To which you mock and hate and laugh and revel.
You call me a false prophet a reprobate leading people to gates of hell
To myself that you constantly did preach and to others did tell,
You also call me soft, and a snowflake and also a socialist
At me you curse and pointed your gun, and shook your fist.
What the hell did you expect me to do?
When once you told me to be just life you,
You had passed out the 'WWJD' bracelets for one and all
I took it to heart when you read the Scriptures written by Paul.
I thought that you were serious, but apparently you were not
Sadly the same belief we never had sought,
We were once friends, now, the lines have been drawn
You hate nearly all the people that I loved from day one.
You stand against nearly all the things that I stand for
You also hate the immigrants, also the needy and the poor,
I'm trying to see a way forward, but it's hard when I survey all the hurt
Plus all the harm and darkness that you won't abandon or desert.
It comes in the wake of your beliefs and your presence
And also your your current thoughts and spiritual residence,
What the hell did you expect me to do and say
I once whole heartedly believed in you all of the way.
You now don't follow the Bible or our Lord Jesus's teachings
I'm still believing it all the way and always the lord's preachings,
Which leaves me wondering unto you what has happened and occurred
No longer do you believe or follow or preach, the Lord's very word.
