What Happened? Poem by Francis Kokutse

I was asked to drink water
to prepare for the dry season
that was yet to come.

I did drink water and when the
harmattan came, it was like my
body had never tasted water all my life.

I am not sure what happened this season
the heat came and consumed all that
was on its way and left nothing for me
to keep my body well prepared.

My season of heat has come and gone
and the rains did not follow.
I am not sure what happened to this
weather in my life as it does not follow
the patterns that l know.

Perhaps, this is how it was meant to be
and l just have to allow all that has come
my way to remain as it is.
