What If Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

What If

What if

What if penguins were not tough, resilient?
What if mammoths and dinosaurs ruled us?
What if eagles were not so naturally proud?
What if gun powder was never processed?
What if the Inca rulers had not been cruel?
What if indigenous people had used poison?
What if the steam engine was not created?
What if Peter had not westernized Russia?
What if Japanese had not gone to Nanking?
What if Koreans had gotten the guns first?
What if trees were not destroyed for farm?
What if fossil fuel or oil was not discovered?
What if seagulls did not live on junk, trash?
What if Mao was not so sincerely Stalinist?
What if a person like me was not full of ifs?
