What If The Wall Allowed Friendship? (2007) Poem by Jodie Phillips

What If The Wall Allowed Friendship? (2007)

What if the wall had some windows
Sunlight could come shining through
You could see all the beautiful things
Waiting out there just for you

What if the wall had a few doors
One for each special friend
You could control who passes
You could even control when

What if the wall turned in to a fence
With a gate that opened up wide
Closing the gate could keep you safe
On the days when you need to hide

What if the fence had some low spots
Where people might stop to say hi
The low fence still keeps you protected
For those days when you’re feeling shy

What if the fence and the wall were the same
With gates and doors and windows
What if you chose who went to each spot
Allowing new friendships to grow
