What Is The Shape Of The Sky Poem by Grant House

What Is The Shape Of The Sky

Rating: 5.0

What is the shape of the sky
Describe a cloud as it is forming
Measure the distance around the petals of a rose
How far back is your vision
How far have you come
Since the idea of you
Became a possibility

Where are you going
What colors fill you up
Who are you
Really
How soon will you become the fog approaching on the horizon
Could be soothing
Immersed in grey
Wet
Mist
Swirling

When the day goes out
Like a light
There you are
Up way past your bedtime
Writing poetry on your phone
One day done
Another not yet begun

The night birds sing loudly to one another in a world of their own
You look deep into the photo of a wind swept beach you took in a small park high on a cliff
You enhance it to show colors not often appreciated
Vibrant colors and the shape of this particular sky
And it occurs to you
There is no way to measure this
No formula
Not even a name

The reality of everyday life
Is mind blowing
Most of us take it for granted
Koi fish in a fountain
Birds flying toward the sunset
Writing this poem

But the wonder is waiting for you
The astonished experience brings you closer to your stardust essence

The sky is that big
But you are bigger
Your colors shine out
Your soul wind creates white caps
Animates the storms when they come
The nourishing fog bank creeps over the hills Surrounds you
Becomes you

Be wise
Be foolish
Be both at the same time
Laugh and wonder
Now before you become the night bird
Talking loudly in the indigo night

Sing it to me
Way past my bedtime
Inspire me
As I write my poems for you
