What It Is We Do Poem by Grant House

What It Is We Do

Sharp scissors
Make people happy
That's my job
I do my very best
To make people happy
I have other skills
Than sharpening scissors
But this one gets them every time
Here are nineteen scissors
I sharpened last evening
For creative costumers and magical makers
Summer Solstice Celebration
Six thirty I started
Got done after nine
I chatted with friends in the workshop
I sharpened and honed
Cleaned and aligned
I stopped to read poetry
Give hugs
Laugh out loud and make time
Now it's the morning
When the others return
How many smiles
Might that simple act earn
I don't think it takes much
To contribute to others
In a meaningful way
To make things better tomorrow
Than they are today
All the world wants
I am pretty sure it's true
Is for us to show up
And do our best
At what it is we do
