The title attracted me to this poem: WHAT LIGHT CAN DO. Light may be the ultimate symbol we humans can use to suggest the PLUS FACTOR of our existence, what goes beyond what our senses perceive, what raises us beyond our present condition. The first effect of this poem is that it humbled me and placed firmly in the context of LIFE. What humble creatures to share it with - M O T H S (!) Not even monarch butterflies, just moths. Yet even they seek the light, which reveals their TYPES and COLORS. I noticed too there are two kinds of light illuminating this scene: the dawn light and the porch light, and they mingle imperceptibly. And finally we observe this unexpected moment at the very beginning of the day - so be prepared for more wonders, right? Because there are hours left for us to be pleasantly surprised.
cool! i'm glad the title attracted you (like a moth to flame?) . and it was truly amazing to me the number and variety of moths i observed. i myself tend to think of butterflies as the more beautiful, but i expect any person who really looked would have seen the beauty in individual moths as well as the diversity of their kind right there so easy to see in the early light and as they were asleep.
o the beauty in this world! and even just a little of it can make up for a whole lot of crap.
