What Price, War? Poem by Rishi Menon

What Price, War?

In days of yore it was land,
Spices, gold and contraband
Today its oil
That leads the world in turmoil

There is this placed called Iraq
One of the richest amongst our lot
Laid waste by the powers that be
Oh, what a tragedy!

In doing so they told a story
Of Saddam and Afghanistan
Security and Democracy
Things far from reality

Iraq bleeds while its riches rot
In the custody of its aggravators
Its people bomb themselves to death
With no future, past or present

What business do we have
In a country that's another's land
Pray, see reason, leave Iraq
Go back while you still can

What price, war?
Nothing but death, destruction and poverty
In peace we only gain
Goodwill and mutual prosperity

Ash (Rishi's Dad)
