What Right Have They Poem by Francis Duggan

What Right Have They

What right have they to enforce the death penalty those State and National Governments who have such a law
It should not even be used as an option though everyone their own conclusion draw
On the rights and wrongs of the death penalty I am on the side of those who say no
To the legalization of human life taking spare the lives of all of those on death row.

A life for a life is a cruel law though in some Countries such a law does apply
For drug trafficking or the taking of human life a person should not have to die
Life in prison seems enough of a sentence the death penalty seems barbaric and wrong
Though in some so called civilized societies these obnoxious laws to this day belong

Her son he is living on death row the mother she prays for her son
She begs for his life to the leader of the Government but he ignores her pleas each and everyone
He is known to be a God fearing fellow did God whisper to him and say
Do not spare the life of this person to execute him with me quite okay?

What right have they to enforce the death penalty their's is such a lopsided truth
If their own children were found guilty of murder them they would never execute
The mother for her son's life is pleading the Government leader his life will not spare
And he is a God fearing fellow a so called man of compassion and prayer.
