What They've Become Poem by Randy McClave

What They've Become

It depresses the hell out of me
From what I have heard and read and did see,
The people that I know and that I am related to
Including my church friends which I couldn't believe to be true.
I hear and see them constantly talking with hate
And judging other people's fate,
And how they wish and pray upon them the very worse
As if they are placing upon them a terrible curse.
They blame their and the country's problems on others
Because, that is their beliefs and druthers,
They never go by truth, facts or words of the wise
They adhere and believe in gossip, rumors and lies.
They blame all of their problems always on them
And also all of the country's mayhem,
If there is a depression, recession crime or an assault
It's always someone else's fault.
If a person is poor, desperate or needy
They immediately think of them evil and pathetic and seedy
And if they are from another land
They want them all kicked out, deported and banned.
The Bible says to welcome the alien the stranger
Instead they are harassed and cursed and seen and stereotype as a danger,
Now their heart is full of hate and rumors and never love
As they want this country to become a private country club.
My friends and family became the type of people I don't want to know
With hearts and souls as black as a piece of coal,
Unto them I would never be trusting or confiding
They turned into people that I wouldn't tell where Anne Frank was hiding.
