What To Write? Poem by Sreekala Sivasankaran

What To Write?

Rating: 5.0

What can I write from the mental hospital?
The pills swallowed three times a day?
Disciplinary orders made of boundaries and discretions?
The Ashoka tree still standing green in sight?

Did you know that I've become so mature?
No complaints, no exciting games
No emotional outbursts
Submit to everything without arguments
Morning coffee, lunch, evening snacks, dinner and so on
The hair flying in the wind is tied neatly at the back now

Those ones I loved
disappeared into infinite distance
Through the dark room door, I still peek
Like me, are you also somewhere here?
My friends Esther, Hagar, and Queen Sheba
Seductive songs and the pomegranates in hands' reach
The sacred hymns smelling of grape wine

The long nights of Charukesi
Bedazzling but not making unconscious
And the sweet smile on your lips
I touch you
With this mind washed with tears
Taking in your pent-up anger,
I stand at the tomb of love that has lost all its maddening momentum
From here,
What could I write?

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Deeply perturbing poem..a mood of poignancy left by the poem on the heart lingers long… The heart is so heavy that one is unable to move on to the next poem..
