What Was That For? Poem by David Darbyshire

What Was That For?

Rating: 5.0

It was very early in the morning
I saw her toe stick out,
I should have took this as a warning
but I wacked it, and she shout!

My 'dear', 'what was that for'?
I must have still been dreaming,
I saw a mouse run across the floor.
Now she was mad, steaming.

She jumped up and made me breakfast,
coffee with salt, and burnt toast.
I guess this meal means I have unsurpassed,
and I shouldn't really boast.

As the evening came by, I was a new man.
Treated myself and bought a brand new hat,
as I sat on the sofa, she smashed me with a pan,
'why' my dear? , she said she thought she saw a rat?
