What You Have Here..... Poem by RIC BASTASA

you have a park
with three statutes
referring to the
same hero

you planted it with
flowers and grass
all of the same
variety

there are four old
trees whose trunks are
known to be empty and
if it breaks and falls
on one's head that
would be very unlucky

you have a woman who
goes to church everyday
praying for his lover
to arrive sooner
from the skies

you have a husband who
had so much fun to hide
from his wife whose history
too is questionable

you have a rich couple who
had gone old but who still
build a theme park for
future enjoyment for a
fee

you had a priest who did
not drink beer but who died
of hepatitis

you have old people here
whose only wish is to finally
meet their Creator
as early as possible

you have only two seasons:
the rain that does not stop
and the hot days that
could even cook a chicken egg.
