Wheel Of Change Poem by David Oladipupo Olorunshola

Wheel Of Change

Blowing from the east
Is the wheel of change
To the nooks and crannies
Of the country
Starting from the west

Every person, family
And community now aware
More becoming sensitive
To the need for change
In the nation’s landscape

It will become a crime
A tacit support to perpetrators;
To keep on keeping quiet
And not speaking
Against the ills in the society.

It will no longer
Be business as usual
For anyone to think,
They can continue to do,
What they have been doing before.

The wheel of change
Is gradually gaining momentum.
The women are not left out;
More participation demanded
To enable them have a voice.
In the way the country,
Is to be govern
A situation where
The future is not only
Secured but bright

Where the young,
The strong and the weak
Can fulfil their dreams;
In an eligalitarian society
Where their voices matter

Civil societies are not
Resting on their oars;
Their voices are ringing out
Loud and clear to the hearing
Of those in leadership

To create a level
Playing ground for everyone
Irrespective of differences,
Party affiliations, religion
And the tribe or state of origin

It is becoming clear
That the wheel of change
Is on the move as more
Religious organisations and bodies
Are now more vocal
Speaking openly to their members

Accountability takes
The front burner
Where men and women
Will have to give account
Of their stewardship.

Organisations and their heads
Must be held liable
For whatever rot transpires
In their institutions,
As the buck stops with them

It is no longer
An acceptable norm,
Not to hold anyone responsible
For the corruption or crime
Perpetrated under their watch.

The wheel of change
Must sweep through
The parties for election;
It has to become a veritable
Ground for democracy.

It can no longer
Be a selection process,
Instead of an election process
Compromising the integrity
Of the election before the start

Everyone is gearing up
To be counted; and the
Vote to count; no more silent
Bystander, who do not speak.
Our voices must be heard.

From the north,
To the utter most part of the south
Engaging in constructive debate,
And issue based discussions.
In order to chart a way forward.

No disguise will stand
But, to be shredded in pieces
Every wrong step taking,
To be challenged and rejected.
As all become a whistle blower.

Matching with banners,
Taking the change
To the streets and high walls,
While the civil societies
And trade unions as pivot.

The wheel of change,
Must produce credible leaders;
Leaders with a soul,
Who will forgo personal gain
For a greater course.
