When Christmas Comes! Poem by Denis Martindale

When Christmas Comes!

When Christmas comes, what joy it brings to those with cash to spare,
To celebrate the King of Kings and God's answers to prayer.
To spare a thought for those in need, with gifts upon Christ's day,
Not just with Christmas cards to read but later throw away.

When Christmas comes, and gifts abound for rich kids here and there,
Of course, they smile for gifts around that show their parents care.
But what of homeless people seen throughout the streets folks walked?
Perhaps the rich folks weren't that keen and never stopped and talked.

When Christmas comes December time, in one long month affair,
What have we done that's proved sublime and thought beyond compare?
For there are TV adverts shown that often folks dismiss,
Yet true love's more than all we've known, not just a loving kiss.

When Christmas comes, what should we do for victims who despair?
Send Christmas cards from me and you? I don't think that we'd dare!
For God is watching on His Throne and guides the ways to live,
To prove that others aren't alone each time we choose to give!
