When God Came To Our House Poem by Shakuntala Sharma

When God Came To Our House

Rating: 5.0

It was a long winter evening
Father was out of town on tour

We four children two boys and two girls
Huddled around Mother coaxing her
To tell us stories she had
Heard from Grandma

Suddenly a knock on the door
Who could that be!

Mother went and opened the door
A stranger walked in
Unable to place him Ma asked
' Who are you? '
He quietly replied, ' I am God '

We were dumbstruck
Our eyes forgot to blink
Our tongues lay immobile
In our mouths

It was Ma who could
Partially recover from the shock
She struggled to stutter
' Er...why...why did you come? '

God smiled
Said, ' just like that '
And vanished.
