When I Die Poem by Valerie Dohren

When I Die

When I die - set me free
Scatter me amongst the heather on the hillside
to be caught by the wind -
captured on the wings of birds
and carried to places exotic and beautiful.

When I die - should you weep
Save those tears
to mingle with a flowing river -
carried out to sea
where the dolphins play.

And when I die - love me
Love me, like you have never loved me before,
as a memory -
a passing whisper
on the edge of time.

When I die - I will become
all that I was before -
dust in an expanding universe
touching infinity.

When I die - let me fade
with the dying of the sun

Then look to the stars
Where I shall wait for you.
