When I Die (Part 1) - Poem by Harshvardhan Ramachandran

I look at the world for what it is
To see what we all have missed
The world has changed manifolds
Yet this all feels very droll
What happened that made us all so negative
So resentful to this life we live
Was it the continuous hate
That finally sealed our fate?
Or could it have been the lies and bigotry
That has been instilled since our ancestry?

The world has changed they said
And it will change more once we are dead
But does it really matter once we are gone
When times have passed us by
And here in this dust we lie

People like us sweat and toil all day
Sweat for the meals they pay
While you wait on the side
With plenty of time to bide
Because one day you will embrace this lie
And selflessly toil till you die
Believing that you will change things
To make us better Human beings

What you do not see is the simple tool
That eventually renders you the fool
The tool of knowledge that says
Hard work does indeed pay
Not for you, but much later
For people who will take it as granted
The hard toil you have put in

It might have been a hard day’s night
But eventually you must see the light
No matter what you do today
It will no matter when you wither away
The cruelty of life is this

But realizing the flaw of genius
Should not want you to be dull
The world does not need a lull
Realize that we live for the future
That every action is indeed selfless
And no matter how much the future is restless
Not realizing who made the world a better place
A place that brings smiles to the face

Keep pushing for more
Till your mind and body are sore
For in the end my friend
It has been a life well spent
Sit back and relax
The job is done, your part is played
The future might be hard to say
But for now, you have your leisure
For achieving Life’s greatest treasure
Despite all of life’s troubling reality
You’ve earned the gift of clarity
Knowledge of how life is
And that you’ve had nothing to miss
So let troubles cease to be
And fill your mind with Peace.
