When I Met My Self Poem by Mishack Mchunu

When I Met My Self

And when I met my self…
I realized I was a stranger of my own,
Failed to understand the pain of my rage,
In my reign I refused to wear the crown,
Imprisoned myself in this fear built cage,

And when I met my self…
My journey became of a chameleon
Found my few and true colors
Reflected from Hades, yet in Zion
I was as a lion but I laid waste my powers,

And when I met my self…

I had this undeserved grace by my side
Adorned with sacrifice, love and tears,
Though bigger than my throat, I swallowed my otherworldly pride
Unleashed my fate from my tongue and conquered my fears.

And when I met my self…

It was not just me, but we were three;
In the place where day and night never share space,
But shined brighter and dimmed darker, yeah we were three,
In the place where day and night never share space!
