When I Pass Away Poem by Amar Agarwala

When I Pass Away

Rating: 5.0

When I pass away, my sweetheart
Do sing no dirges for me,
I seek of you no eulogy
Nor shade of a leafy tree.

Bury me in some wilderness
And bid me a quick adieu,
Where grass and blooms would add comfort
Under an echoing blue.

For I'd be beyond worldliness
Untouched by the sun or rain,
Wandering in eternity
Beyond the measures of pain.

The love we shared is sacrament
It will walk along with you,
I pray abandon loneliness
And search for an ominous clue.

That someday we shall re-unite
At the yard of heaven's gate,
Till then let our memories add
Consolation to your wait.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
LEAVING BEHIND OUR BELOVED

I wonder what the dead feel when they leave behind loved-ones and their beloved. Perhaps, it is painful to them as well... at least when they are parting from life. But for the ones left behind, the pain lingers, as old memories keep flying in and out of their minds. I strongly believe, that the dead would not be happy to see their near and dear ones mourning and in pain. If they ever leave behind some consolation, it would be something like the verses stated above.
