When I Was Younger Poem by Randy McClave

When I Was Younger

When I was younger I had family members which were gay
But, I didn't want to be that way,
I was always happy the way that I was
And I always felt love.

When I was younger I went to the library
I still remember reading, "The Little House On The Prairie",
I also saw and read other books that they now want to ban
Including, "1984", "To Kill A Mockingbird" and maybe even "Peter Pan".

When I was younger I loved watching any comedy show
Especially with Larry, Curly. and Moe,
And I laughed and I laughed and I will still laugh all over again
Whenever I see them dressed up like women.

When I was younger a gun or rifle I never shot
And I never smoked cigarettes, drank beer or took pot,
And now I am a father and a very proud adult
And who I became it was from my own desires and that result.

When I was younger I didn't want to be anyone else but me
Even though I knew my body and my soul was free,
And if I became someone you didn't liked or believed in
That would had been my decision alone, not any other women or men.
