When Last I Was In Toora Poem by Francis Duggan

When Last I Was In Toora

Rating: 5.0

On the last time that I was in old Toora Town
The hills all around were in their Autumn brown
The dark winged swallows were circling in the sky
And the day I recall it was sunny and dry.

They have inspired writers to story and rhyme
The old hills of Toora old in the Dreamtime
In centuries gone by in the shade of the trees
The indigenous people had their corroborees.

When the wildflowers of Nature upon them are seen
The old Hills of Toora in Springtime look green
And the flute of the magpie melodious and clear
In the quiet country Town is so pleasant to hear.

Though the hills of South Gippsland I may not see again
Memories of their beauty with me will remain
For as long as my memory does serve me okay
And I hope that from now that will be many a day.

The old hills were wearing their brown of the Fall
A memory to cherish and for to recall
And down the quiet Main Street a warm wind did blow
When last I was in Toora a few years ago.
