Where African Peace Lives Poem by Michelle Melody

Where African Peace Lives

There is a corner of my soul
where peace lives.
It lights up
when I look into your African eyes.
It sighs a delighted sigh
when I see an old Windmill
on an African Farm,
it finds itself when my
toes walk on African dust,
it says this is what I'm made of.
It gets hooked on a Thorn tree.
But never bleeds
It dreams on a Rock under
African Sun
It finds abundant joy in looking
for toktokkies
It sneaks in the Bushveld
camouflaged from
Lion, Elephant, Giraffe and Rhino
It squeals with laughter at
Monkeys in trees
It is still when a Kudu
walks by majestically
It sings around
an African campfire
It finds déjà vu in Franschoek
It is a child on a Kwa-zulu Natal Beach
It is fed by my Dad catching Shad
It finds solace in my mother's voice
It soars up Table mountain
It kneels at God's Window.
