Where I Come From Poem by DeAire Taylor

Where I Come From

Where I've been is not a happy one
I've been called many names before
Bisexual, Negro, ignorant, ugly, two-faced, crazy
Well, let me ask you something
Do you think that actually hurts me?
If I'm supposed to be "free at last"
Then why am I still beaten and chained?
You guys wanna judge me on looks, hair, and skin?
Well I know there's more to me than that
I'm more than just "a regular human"
I am who I am for a reason
You can put me down as much as you want
But I'll always get back up
Even though my heart condition makes me stop
I'll rest and keep going cause my goal in is forward
It will never be backward
So you can hit me with belts, you can chain me up
You can call me names and you can try to crush me
Because your NEGATIVITY turns to POSITIVITY for me
For I, DeAire Javon Miguel Taylor am a superstar
And if you don't like it you can get in the back
And if you feel the same way I feel
And if you're going through the same thing I am
Then come with me
I'll show you the light inside your heart
My hand is always out in reach to you
