Where I Rule Poem by Jac Harper

Where I Rule

i am empress
i am queen
i am comforted
i am clean
i am special
i am great

if i open my mouth
you hold up the plate
if i am needed
you say I'll be late
if i am tired
you put me to rest
if i have doubts
you cancel the test
if i am quiet
you leave me alone
if i am noisy
you keep me at home

if i show interest
will you let me learn
if i make an effort
will you say it was earned
if i want to change
will you help me or hinder
if i ask you this
will you even remember
if i express dissatisfaction
will you care for me, tender
if i live on as i do
is it not a surrender?

i am protected
i am adored
i am enthroned
i am no more
i am time past
i am so bored.
