Where is that voice of high command
Of that voice which I still hear,
Not mere words nor heart-filled gestures
But honeyed strains after you were near.
Now all I hear are saddened screams
That call out in the dark,
Loud outlines of our prior lives
Of dreams that were are all a lark.
I cup my ears to the riddles
Of those ghosts and ghouls and knaves,
But only hear that voice of yours-
Sweet chants from your sweet grave.
