Where Is The Last Bard Of Duhallow Poem by Francis Duggan

Where Is The Last Bard Of Duhallow

Where is the last bard of Duhallow John Twomey our laureate
of rhyme?
When I was a boy in the fifties he was in his poetic prime
He was one who made many happy with his gifts of poetry and song
He was the true poet of the people and his verses to the people belong.

Where is the last bard of Duhallow is he one of the living today
Or has he too gone to the reaper time on all life keeps ticking away?
His poems by many are recited fond memories of him do not fade
'Tis true what they say about poets that poets are born not made.

With his words he made many famous and through his poems he became well known
It made us so proud in Duhallow to have a Poet Laureate of our own
John Twomey with his poems made so many happy when he left he left behind an empty space
A person like him is irreplaceable there is none for to take his place.

The very last Bard of Duhallow to him alone that title belong
When he was in his prime in the fifties he penned many a great poem and song
He went off in search of adventure in the bigger World out there
And there will not be another quite like him since people like him are so rare.

To the old fields and hills of Duhallow the Seasons they come and they go
And the streams with their source by the mountains downland to the big river flow,
Duhallow made famous by John Twomey when I was a schoolgoing boy
Renowned as the last Bard of Duhallow and his poems are for all to enjoy.
