Where The River Meets The Sea Poem by Francis Duggan

Where The River Meets The Sea

In that beautiful place where the river meets the sea
The magpie he pipes on a stringybark tree
And the silver gulls mew on the white beach nearby
As the dark shades of twilight are crossing the sky.

Near where it crawls to the sea the river dark, deep, wide and still
And the sun it has set o'er the western hill
And the huge surf waves rumble as the great ocean roar
As they crash on the volcanic rocks on the shore.

Of such natural beauty a poet would write
A poem for others to enjoy and read and recite
The loud quack of the black duck and the softer call of the drake
And the wild cry of the coot one should never mistake.

The wonders of Nature are for all to see
And her unrivalled beauty is all around me
Near where the river meets the sea a few miles from the town
The magpie is singing just after sundown.
