Which way did Hiuen-Tsang come to
Taking to which routes and paths,
Leading to where,
How had it been society then,
How was the history of the land,
Who ruled it when?
Which way did he return to
Taking to which routes and paths
And with what texts and manuscripts,
How the memories and recollections of his
When he visited India, a diverse country
Of so many races and cultures?
How was it Nalanda then,
Who were the teachers at the university,
The ancient of learning
And whom did he meet,
How was he entertained,
Greeted with at by the dwarapala
And who welcomed whom?
How had it been Nalanda,
The olden red buildings of it
The monastery,
The Buddhist seat,
How the site ancient and architectural
And who built it when?
But oh, that was raided and destroyed!
