While Swords Were Down Poem by Mel Mack

While Swords Were Down

The great wall was open for attack
Empty promises filled with worse intentions
Caught me off guard while my swords were down
While I bathed in light once when a smile took over a frown
gave into those promises made for breaking
Abandon me in the cold, frozen. Left shaking

Give me hope, just to tear it away
These garments made of gold now weathered and frayed
Everything I felt, the goodness in my soul replaced with nothing
Left empty and alone to fend for myself when I need a hand
Lost and confused. Blinded and have to walk this land
There is nothing left of me

Coldness and heartbreak, chills and time
All and nothing that travel my mind
Can't sleep, can't rest. Got tragedy and lies
Stuck in sand, a timeless hourglass that will not move
You've taken everything, so I have nothing to lose
