While The World Sleeps Poem by Patricia Sampson

While The World Sleeps

While the world sleeps

The poison that once ranthrough my veins
Has ceased and I breath again
I hear the bird song ringing out
Where humans used to scream and shout

I watch the wildlife scurry around
listening out for any human sound
The silence is so very weird
It must be something that humans feared

The birds that swim on ponds and lakes
can now nest safely in this outbreak
they will watch their chicks grow day by day
while the humans continue to stay away

Now that I canbreath this way
The gift of life is on its way
an abundance of trees and flowers to explore
While humans sleep we live once more

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
In the midst of what we are facing with coronavirus I have been watching the movement of the wildlife in the (park)gardens through my window. What I noticed was a change in behaviour of these creatures and how the flora and fauna has flourished without the intervention of us human beings. I founded and now chair a charity that have for the past 3 years worked with both the Borough Council and the local police to transform these historical sheduled gardens (Southchurch Hall Gardens)from a no go area to one that is inviting to both people and wildlife. We have a special interest in our invironment so with the assistance of Jason Alexander I was inspired to write this poem
