While They Laugh Poem by Abdul Wahab

While They Laugh

Seeing me working hard
in preparing the soil
to plant a seed
without understanding my effort
first they scorned
next they laughed out
when I told them my ambition
and made me feel
what a fool
i was
I did not react
Or say anything
In response of their insult
I just gave a sign
By biting my lower lip
And casting my eyes down
That I was serious and firm in my conviction
one day that seed germinated into a sapling
and then grew into a big tree hanging
pulpy fruits from its boughs
seeing me them to pick
now they burn
while I laugh and eat! !
