Whiskey Blood Poem by Dakota Ellerton

Whiskey Blood

I look in the mirror,
and see a blank stare.
The reflection will always change,
but I never will.
As deeply sick as always,
I may be ill, but I am real.
I'll be the skeleton,
most hide in their closet.
Your innocence has slipped away,
you're falling to such a demanding state.
Shivers aching down my spine,
my stomach kicks.
I'm so scared for you.
If any were to hide,
it'd be you.
With whiskey blood,
I'd tell you the things lingering in my heart.
Tell you I miss you,
and wish you'd miss me.
With such an intoxicated love,
I'll keep you close.
You protect me,
you frustrate me.
I sit and tear,
as my life falls to shambles.
Within a whisper,
I could grow faith.
Your lips so softly pressed to mine,
it makes me sick to think of...
My heart will implode in my chest,
if ever I have to see such a thing again.
My blood curdles,
when I smell her on you.
Such familiar lies,
almost comfort me.
You deserve better than I.
You can find perfection,
where I lacked.
You will love as if your life were suffering from it.
You will hold,
like you'd never let go.
To stand so erect,
I will collapse faster.
Life is so fragile,
and easily lost.
