Whisper Poem by Joshua Manis

Whisper

Silent insecurities hold my tongue.
I desire to love you,
but can't defeat my pride.
Isn't it worth the consequence?

Rejection never roared so loud,
at least not at me.
Look in my eyes, I'm no coward...
I'm only afraid of a girl.

Or maybe I'm afraid of losing her,
not even holding a chance.
Let alone holding her. I can't
even say the name.
What if death heard?

Then he'd have her
and I'd play the friend.
Not this time, this time
I'll burn for her. I'll speak her name,
whispered, so only we can hear.
Listen closely, or you'll miss it.

My only regret,
is never showing how I
care for her.
How could I be so afraid?

Eternity speaks to me, in time...
lasting longer than I remember.
Look in her eyes and you'll see mine
earnestly gazing, I could never look away.

as for tonight,
I wait for the Lord-
and whisper.
