Who Cursed Us Poem by Babalola Augustine Adeola

Who Cursed Us

I
Who cursed us?

II
I know a people,
Who frowns at success and dances rendering the dirge

III
I know a nation
Where the sun sets and rises
And the people live to die and die to live.

IV
Who cursed us?
With sweet talking demons
That spit holy lies
At our holy feast daily

V
… With handsome and beautiful masquerades
Who attires in brooms and umbrellas
Flaunting their snakes and monkeys
That has no appetite for chicken eggs and bananas
Instead feeds on papers of values

VI
Who cursed us?
With a praying nation that preys on one another
Where fathers who got bored of their wives and mistresses
Turn to their tiny children
To calm their erection
Who?

VIII
Who cursed us?
With polling booths entrepreneurs,
Don't worry, we will all watch patiently for 4 years
As our investment grow.
While we water it daily,
With roads filled with speed checks
Housing the gun carrying herdsmen

IX
Who cursed us?
With earth's flowing liquor,
That has made us shut down our farms.
With leaders leading for their pockets,
And followers following for their stomachs.
Or the man,
Manning our security outfit
Who values our lives at Fifty Naira only.
Please tell me, who placed this curse on us?
